In a literal sense, No. Our initial concept of him was  Father of Heaven. This was the same concept the heathen kept after God separated us at Abraham, our father. God became to us ÐÜ âÜÙÕß,&nbsp; the most high God. When Moses asked God his name at Horeb, God even mentions that he was not known by his name in earlier times but he was known as  the God Almighty. </P> <P> God of Heaven was fine for Noah and his immediate descendants. But as idols and polytheism grew,  God Almighty implied the greatest of many gods. Considering how Sumerian and Greek Gods variously boasted, it could even be taken as the statement not of the  almighty God but one of the gods pretending to that position and ready to duke it out to prove it with another. That obviously wouldn t do at all! </P> <P>Thus it was time for God to reveal his actual substance. God answered Moses question  what is your name? But, truly, God didn t give a name. He provided a concept, and because he was speaking he used the first person conjugation. ÐÔÙÔ Ðéè ÐÔÙÔ. Then&nbsp; he said that Moses should tell them that ÐÔÙÔ has sent me to you. </P> <P>Yet when we write or think of God we think of what has become known as the Tetragrammaton: ÙÔÕÔ. That is clearly not the same name, is it? In actuality, it is. The fact is that God does not identify himself by name but by substance. He uses the first person future tense of  to be : Ehyeh asher Ehyeh.  I shall be which I shall be. We, naturally, called him ÙÔÕÔ   He shall be. (It s an imperfect conjugation of it, but it approximates it essentially. You ll see why below.)</P> <P>Neither, of course, simply mean  I shall be as if  I shall be at the market in an hour. &nbsp; Such a statement  I shall be is a statement of eternality. It is a statement of constant existence. It is not  I am. We can all say  I am in a present sense. But none of us can say  I shall be in the sense God has spoken it. He is, quite seriously, saying no matter what he is always existing. ÐÔÙÔ Ðéè ÐÔÙÔ might best be translated  I am that which shall always be. God constantly exists; he is self-generating and shall always be. The same must be said of the Tetragrammaton. It evokes the same concept. It is merely conjugated in the second person:  He shall be. </P> <P>How should we address God if we truly stood before him? Would it have to be  You shall be ? êÔÙÔ? I am not musing over such a serious concept, for you see God s name is not a name. It is several conjugations of&nbsp; Being.  Being I shall be. Therein is it s holiness. God s holiness is not found in the conjugation or pronunciation but in the very concept. </P> <P>Thus taking his name in vain has far broader and reaching concepts. We know how to pronounce God s name in the first person Ehyeh and in a conjugation never used:  You shall be. But  He shall be  ÙÔÕÔ the most common conjugation found in scripture and Hebrew literature is often a source of debate. </P> <P>Should it be pronounced? </P> <P>Yes. But one must be careful, for its holiness, once again, is found in what it means and evokes, not in exact pronunciation.  Ehyeh is just as holy. Again ÐÔÙÔ and ÙÔÕÔ are conjugations of eternal existence. If you mispronounce the second-person conjugation  He shall be as Jehovah or Yahweh and you are still in intent using the name of God, <I>you are</I> using the name of God. When pronouncing the first person conjugation correctly  Ehyeh but using it lightly in reference to God, you have also taken the name in vain. In English one should also be careful in using  The Being or  Being I am Being. One is invoking the substance and God s name is <I>this concept</I>. </P> <P>Let me give another example. ÐÔÙÔ Ðéè ÐÔÙÔ is so deep that Jewish scholars had trouble how to equate this into Greek when translating the Septuagint at Alexandria. They opted for <SPAN STYLE="font-family: Greek,serif; font-size: 12pt;">Ego eimi o Wn<SPAN STYLE="font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times, Serif, serif;">. Such depth. Greek is indeed a language of concepts.  I am the Being. We are all beings. We think of it as a noun, but it is really a verb. We are all existing in the present tense. But God is  The Being. He is constantly existing, self-generating; the BEING from whom all life, existence and being comes. He is generator and progenitor. </SPAN>Wn <SPAN STYLE="font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times, Serif, serif;">or Being should also not be taken lightly in reference to God. </SPAN></SPAN></P> <P><SPAN STYLE="font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times, Serif, serif; font-size: 12pt;"> God is in fact a small concept compared to what he really is. He said he would be our God. Why? That s how we understood high powers.&nbsp; We had concepts of gods and higher powers. But he really isn t such a limited concept or totem. He is  The Being. </SPAN></P> <P><SPAN STYLE="font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times, Serif, serif; font-size: 12pt;">In conclusion, we see that God really has no name as we think of names. He is the substance of all things. This concept was meant to overpower and satiate us. To deny it in favour of  God again is to deny his revelation and make his word vain. This is grievous.&nbsp; Sages passed a curse on people who pronounced the name of God with its vocals. They had no authority. God specifically revealed himself. And the concept is far more encompassing than pronouncing  He shall be correctly. The name of God in the conjugation we use  He shall be should be spoken at the appropriate times lest we make to no effect his revelation. In any language, the concept should not be taken lightly. For one is indeed speaking of God in his substance. His name evokes this concept in all its levels and depths.
